She died on 11 September 2006 in Curlwaa NSW. Gwen was buried on 15 September 2006 in Merbein Vic. "Gwen" was buried with her brother William Tyson Storey 'Beau' because her place in her husband's grave was taken by her Son Ivan 'Dingle' Keatch. Grave : J27 Anglican [ With Brother William Tyson Storey]1483 'Gwen' is a great example of the hard working, resiliant country woman. She was born 'on' Curlwaa, a Soldier settlement irrigation property near Wentworth NSW. Her father had been a WW1 'Digger' in France where he had received a head wound. In spite of the tragedies that have doggerd her with untimely deaths to her brother, husband, sons and Granson she managed somehow to retain a positive outlook and a keen sense of humour.
Following the death of her husband, leaving her five children to raise, she became the manager, labourer and operator of the fruit property. Physically strong, she could work with the best and at the same time continued to raise her children.
Her skills in Crochet are well known and all of her grandchildren received at least one item, usually a 'Nana' rug. There are examples of these carefully stored because they represent something special.
She enjoyed the simpler things in life fishing, yabbying, dancing, and especially her family and friends. At the time of her death she had 12 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren. She always had a dog of some sort close by and Sally Niemann made the comment that she'd never seen such a line of three legged dogs.
In latter years she became less mobile and spent more time doing what she could around the house and tending to the family who lived with her. She liked nothing better than to have one of her many friends or family call in for a chat.
She was most helpful in providing information and photographs for this family history and was very patient in correcting the errors or misunderstandings.
She was a descendant of convicts [Harris] which most people celebrate. I'm not sure Gwen felt quite like that ! I think she preferred the Storey family history.

George Devine TRELOAR was born in 1884 in Ballarat Vic. About 1900 he was a Bank Clerk / Jackaroo / Actor / Soldier in Australia, Turkey, Russia. This biography has been include mostly because it is an interesting story of adventure : -

TRELOAR, GEORGE DEVINE (1884-1980), gentleman of fortune, was born on 23 April 1884 at Ballarat, Victoria, son of Thomas Reid Treloar, chemist, and his wife Jane, née Devine, both Victorian born. Educated at Ballarat's St Patrick's College, he was a bank clerk at Ballarat for five years, then a jackeroo in western Victoria before he farmed in Western Australia. While travelling by ship to Adelaide, he was recruited by actor-manager Julius Knight and toured Australia with his troup, playing in romantic dramas. Oscar Asche <http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A070108b.htm> took Treloar to South Africa and England where he was acting when war broke out in 1914.
Having previously served at Ballarat as a lieutenant in the 3rd Victorian Rifles, Treloar immediately volunteered. Although rejected because of defective eyesight, he wangled his way into the 20th Middlesex (Artists) Rifle Volunteers in 1915 as a private and secured a transfer to the Coldstream Guards. He served in France, was commissioned and ultimately promoted to major, second-in-command of the 3rd Battalion. Buried twice by shellbursts on the Somme and almost bullet-riddled at Ypres, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and the Military Cross. In 1918 he commanded the Brigade of Guards Officers' School of Instruction and, following the Armistice, served with his battalion in the Rhineland Occupation Force.
After commanding the post-war Royal Military, Naval and Air Force Tournament at Olympia, London, in 1919, Treloar joined the British Mission to the White Russian armies as assistant military secretary to Major-General Holman. At Constantinople after the withdrawal of the mission, Treloar served with the Tsarist army as a colonel under Baron Wrangel. When the White Russians were defeated Treloar commanded a British camp for Russian refugees at Tousla on the Sea of Marmora. His attempt to set up as a timber concessions trader in Constantinople was frustrated by the Turks. He then became a representative of the League of Nations High Commissariat for Refugees in northern Greece.
In 1922-26** Treloar was engaged in the resettlement of Greek refugees from Asia Minor; at first he worked at Gumuldjina (Komotini) in Thrace and later in Salonika; by 1923 his mission was handling over 108,000 refugees. His efforts to organize food, shelter, medical care and resettlement precipitated disputes with indifferent league officials in Geneva and with a senior Greek official. Treloar was appointed to the Order of the Saviour (gold cross) and a refugee village (Thrilorion) near Komotini was named after him.
In Constantinople on 27 December 1923 Treloar married Kathleen May Douch whose father was an engineering consultant to the Turkish government. When the league's resettlement operation ended, Treloar suffered severe financial loss in a fraudulent mining investment and in 1927 returned to Australia to seek work. Eight years later his family rejoined him. He sold insurance and sought business opportunities in Queensland before unsuccessfully contesting the New South Wales Legislative Assembly seat of Ashfield for the United Australia Party in 1930. In that year Colonel Eric Campbell <http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A070550b.htm> appointed him second-in-command of the New Guard. In 1931, however, Treloar denounced Campbell as a Fascist and militarist, and founded his own short-lived movement, the Civic Legion.
In 1935 the Treloars moved to Western Australia where George prospected and managed several mining enterprises. As 'The Archer', he became known for his trenchant radio commentaries on foreign affairs and for his programme, 'Perth Speaks'. A handsome man of commanding presence, forthright speech and strongly-held conservative views, 'the Major' stood unsuccessfully for the Legislative Council seat of West Province in 1950 and worked for the Liberal and Country League until 1956. Treloar died on 29 November 1980 at Dalkeith and was buried in the Anglican section of Karrakatta cemetery, Perth. His wife and two sons survived him.

GEORGE DEVINE TRELOAR born on 23 Apr 1884 in Ballarat, Victoria and died on 29 Nov 1980 in Perth WA, age 96. George married Kathleen May DOUCH on 31 Dec 1923 in Constantinople. Kathleen was born on 7 May 1901 in Constantinople, where her father was an Engineer with the Ottoman Debt
.
George Devine Treloar was commissioned as a lieutenant in the part-time 7th Australian Infantry Regiment in 1904. After working briefly in banking and on remote grazing stations he joined a succession of touring theatrical companies, including those of the famous Julius Knight and Oscar Asche. Notably he acted in the premiere performance of "On Our Selection", a famous Australian folkloric play, in Melbourne in 1912. After acting in various countries, he enlisted as a private soldier in the 28th Battalion The London Regiment (Artists Rifles) in mid 1915.
In October 1915 he became a Second Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards, and was posted to the front in France in January 1916. He was promoted to Temporary Captain in March and became the Divisional Trench Mortar Officer. In December 1916 he was mentioned in despatches.
In July 1917 he won the Military Cross for bravery at Pilkem Ridge on the western front.
Later in that year he won the Distinguished Service Order for bravery at Fontaine Notre Dame, and was again mentioned in despatches.
In 1918 as a temporary Major he was a Chief Instructor of the (Royal) Household Brigade Officer Cadet Battalion and later was Officer Commanding the Brigade of Guards Officers Course of Instruction.
Bearing in mind that he was the son of a pharmacist from colonial Victoria, these achievements in the most prestigious Brigade in the British Army were remarkable, as was what followed.
Following the Armistice he became a Lieutenant Colonel and the Commanding Officer of the 3rd Coldstream Guards in the British Expeditionary Force Army of Occupation of Germany.
He returned to England when he was appointed Commandant of the first post-war Royal Military Naval and Air Force Tournament, Olympia London.
Subsequently he joined the Russian Relief Force. In his own words he was "ordered to join British Military Mission….to conform with local establishment ranked as Staff Captain and appointed acting assistant Military Secretary to the General Officer Commanding the British Military Mission Russia”. He served under General Holman assisting the White Russian forces of General Denikin in areas around Novorossiisk, Tsaritsyn, Taganrog and Rostov on Don. He was awarded the Russian Order of St Anne 3rd Class and at about the same time the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun.
This British Military Mission was withdrawn by the British Government in early 1920 after Treloar had, with his comrades, been evacuated from Novorossiisk just before its fall to the Red Army.
His sympathy with the anti-communist cause led him to relinquish his commission in the British Army and join the White Russian Army as a Polkovnik (Colonel). He served from September to November 1920 in fighting north of the Crimea, escaped by walking some 90 miles, and was evacuated to Constantinople in the last ship to leave Sebastopol before the entry of the Red Army in November 1920. He was awarded the Russian Orders of St Vladimir and St Stanislas, and was made a member of the Kuban Cossack Host.
In Turkey he commanded the Russian Refugee Camp run by the French and British at Tuzla south of Constantinople, and was reinstated as a Major in the British Army.
During service with General Harington, the Generalissimo of the Allied Occupation Forces, he visited the Greek front during the Greco-Turkish campaign and accompanied the Greek Army during later stages of its disastrous retreat.
In 1922 he visited Rodosto and other places in Thrace, and late in the year joined the League of Nations as a Commissioner for Refugees in Western Thrace. From that time of appointment he travelled widely in Thrace and to and from other countries until mid 1926 when the League of Nations closed its Greek operations for lack of funds. At that time the places still had their Turkish names such as Gumuljina and Dedeagatch. He apparently drew up the plans to resettle some million Greek agricultural refugees from Turkey, and develop small-scale industries for their employment. Some of the dates and details of his activities in this period are unclear. He was awarded the Gold Cross of the Greek Order of the Redeemer.
For a period thereafter he continued work on behalf of these refugees using his own funds, but then unfortunately was associated with some unsuccessful commercial ventures in Greece and/or Turkey which caused him to send his wife and children to England with their grandparents while he returned to Australia in 1929, only to strike the Great Depression.
After a lengthy period of financial hardship the family were reunited in Australia in 1935. In Perth Western Australia Major Treloar, as he was known, gained prominence in broadcasting on political and foreign affairs and was a pioneer of live open-air talk-back radio.
He pursued an active role in politics; being a foundation member of the Australian Party in New South Wales. He stood unsuccessfully as a candidate for the seat of Ashfield in Sydney NSW as a representative of the Australian Party, and as a candidate for Fremantle in WA as a representative of the Liberal Party, and later was employed by the Liberal Party in Western Australia in broadcasting and campaigning for some years before retiring in the mid 1950’s.
In retirement he was active as President of a branch of the Returned Soldiers League, and through association with hockey and cricket clubs well into his 80’s.
